Transportation Options Network for Seniors and The Independent Living Resource Center are proud to be collaborating on these events to which we are grateful in having received funding from the Manitoba Government, Seniors & Long-Term Care department and the Manitoba Accessibility Office. This funding gives us the opportunity to provide these trainings for FREE and to support the development of extra resources which we know will go a long way in supporting the life giving and valuable work that individuals like you who are drivers, board members and Coordinators do for older adults living in our communities.

These workshops will provide training on the following topics which are applicable to everyone no matter if you're rural or urban:

-Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Securement

-Boarding & De-boarding

-Customer Service

-Regulations (AMA, Highway Traffic act etc.)

-Securement Systems

These FREE workshops are not mandatory but we aim to support rural transportation groups in ensuring that all Rural Accessible Van Drivers, Coordinators & Board members (where applicable) are adequately trained so that they can continue providing safe & high quality services to Older Manitobans. You are welcome to attend both but if you are planning to attend in person, please choose the workshop closest to you. You will receive a link to access the workshop resources upon registration.

Rural Transportation Round Table Consultations

Is your community, municipal district or region looking to improve transportation for Older Adults in 2024? Are you as a Community leader looking to explore how transportation can improve access to your community and in enhancing your local economy?

TONS will be providing round table consultation support which aims at bringing key community stakeholders together for dynamic and collaborative discussions in person or online. Together we can explore the critical role transportation place in supporting aging in place and it's vital role in building a vibrant rural Manitoba. Sometimes having an outside perspective can be the exact tool you need to move the conversations from what's not working to how can we do better with what we have or find innovative ways to collaborate instead of building from the ground up.

These conversations are imperative for all Manitobans and here's what the Russell Binscarth community group had to say about their first experience with TONS:

“Our Age Friendly Committee arranged an online round table meeting with TONS Rep (Samantha) - excellent resource that started us on the path to identifying what our VISION may look like for Transportation within our Municipality …  encouraging us to think outside of the box and to believe that anything is possible by finding the right partnerships!!" -Marg Fraser
